    >Run free! I am a tad superstitious... the facts are not clear. This is a great place to blog about but not a place to pass judgement. WE don't know what happened!

Yes indeed! We don't know what happened. It's too bad the guy had to risk his life to get free of the situation.
It speaks to a larger issue, quite rampant in Japan -- this is idea of self policing... while if someone is actively being assaulted, violated, rapped ect, -- YES it's a GOOD IDEA to HELP Them!
If nothing else, make a phone call, and alert the AUTHORITIES!...

But I've seen here in Japan, too many people have this stupid notion, that they need to become the police themselves, and affect some kind of arrest!.. That's crazy... From what the story indicates, that what-ever happened, was already over, and that these, "Good Samaritans" injected themselves into the situation to perform some kind of "Citizens Arrest." The girl / woman was not in any danger, any more, the incident was over...

Unless you are an OFF-DUTY Police Officer -- Why not simply take a photo of the guy, and call the cops...?

**By the Grace of GOD, he wasn't hit by a train!** Then you'd be personally responsible for a DEATH..

**Or what if the guy pulled a knife and stabbed you...?**

Not that long ago, a convenience store clerk (part-time employee - university student) chased after a guy stealing a 6-pack of beer...

**The shoplifter, confronted the clerk, who ran after and tried to detain the man, and the clerk was FATALLY STABBED to DEATH!**

    **WORTH IT...?**

    Common Sense People!

Let the Police do their JOBS... If someone's in Trouble, YES Help Them, but there's no need to play Rambo and try to arrest someone...
    That's just silly...
